He has been active on the Greenhorn Fire Department for nine years and an active firefighter for the Quincy Department for a year. Charlie is also the department's facilities manager and mechanic and is one of only three paid staff on the Quincy roster. In his paid capacity, Charlie has proven there isn't any piece of fire equipment he can't repair nor is there any building repair or maintenance project he can't handle. Fire Chief Robbie Cassou has a saying at Quincy Fire: "There is nothing you can throw away that we can't use." He added that most of their vehicles are either hand-me-downs that have been retired from other departments and are usually in rough shape, or they are homemade. "Charlie is able to restore these vehicles performing everything from major mechanical repairs to showroom quality paint jobs. All of the training props we have, including the drill tower are built by us. I have often joked that all I have to do is sketch it on a napkin and Charlie can design and build it. He is worth his weight in gold.., and then some," said Chief Cassou. His firefighting credentials are equally impressive. They include the Quincy Fire Academy; Apparatus Safety and Pump Operations and Testing, Truck Company Operations and First Responder training. "Living in a small community I see the need and opportunity to be able to help my neighbors. I take great pride and satisfaction in being able to help others, i also enjoy learning new skills to make myself a better firefighter. If you have the same kind of interests, I would encourage you to visit your local fire department and ask how can help," Charlie said. got the desire and are willing to make we've got the ongoing training a valuable asset to your by joining our firefighting family. to know more about what of your local volunteer fire de or member of its support team, give us a call today!
