6C Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 uu.eun, ~ecora, Progresswe, Reporter James Wilson Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship held its annual Trailfest at Nakoma Golf Resort on Jan. 18, and droves of trail users came out to support the efforts of the nonprofit. The black-tie gala truly gave attendees their money's worth with lots of food, libations and a casino-themed party: The stewardship hired a company out of Sacramento that brought a roulette table, a craps table and several blackjack tables. Each attendee was given $500 in play money to test their luck.. Each $100 left was traded in for a drawing ticket and a chance to win one of an assortment of top-end prizes. This year's Trailfest marked the llth year the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has operated .... Executive director, Greg:: : Williams, said a few words during dinner. Williams:gave ' recognition to specific people that have supported the stewardship since its inception. Todd Hesse was awarded Volunteer of the Year and recognized in the SBTS Hall of Fame. The stewardship focuses on building and maintaining trails around Plumas and Sierra counties. The focus of the organization is to create jobs locally in the outdoor recreational tourism industry. The hope for the stewardship is the counties' economies will boom by attracting eco-friendly tourists to the area. To get involved with the stewardship, go to sierratrails.org.
