4C Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter FRC men, women fall to Lassen Grog Knight Sports Writer After leading the Lady Cougars by as much as 18 points in the first half, the Feather River College Lady Golden Eagles could only muster a 21-point second half last week at home, fallir/g to Lassen on a 63-56 final score. In their first-half drive, the Eagles were able to find the basket four times from three-point land: including in a pair of treys from freshman Traci Strong, who was also the scoring leader in the first minutes of the game with nine. Catharine Rees and Kaycee Wadsworth were also in on the scoring action from beyond the arc. Nearly every player on the Eagles squad scored during the first half, with only the notable absence of freshman Zhani Thomas and sophomore Ashley Hibbard. Hibbard went on to add a free throw in the second half, while Thomas contributed heavily on defense for FRC. The coaching staff of Lassen ' must have said something right during the halftime break-- the Cougars were able to come out on fire, demolishing FRC's 35-23 lead with a combination of offensive and defensive shots and rebounds that crippled head coach Haley White's squad. Though the Lady Eagles were able to get back within four points near the middle of the second half, Lassen kept up its pressure and ultimately walked away with the win. Sophomore Brittany McFalls led FRC with 13 points, including a three-pointer in the second. Strong followed with nine points and both Wadsworth and Rees ended the night with eight. Kaitlin Boyd, Morgan Manley and Shayla Butterfield each logged four points. Stephanie Miller ended with three. The loss keeps FRC's women in the basement of Golden Valley Conference standings at 0-6, though they still maintain a 10-12 overall record. The Lady Eagles will play at College of the Redwoods on Jan. 31 and College of the Siskiyous on Feb. 7. Both the women's and men's squads will return to action at home Feb. 14 when they host Shasta at 5:30 p.m. FRC men's basketball Lassen 78, FRC 55 The FRC men's squad took a 78-55 drubbing against GVC foe Lassen last week at home as well.
