Chester's team got in its first race of the season at Northstar California on Jan. 24 and Quincy raced at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on Jan. 20. Chester was scheduled to race at Boreal Ski Resort on Jan. 10, but a lack of snow forced the team to delay its season start. At the Northstar slalom races last Friday, the team did exceedingly well. Dakota Strand stood out on his team, placing first in the boys' ski races. On the boys' snowboard team, Wesaly Hedrick finished second. Cody Najera.finished eighth and Dustin Spradley crashed. On the girls' snowboard team, :Jessie Gannon finished 10th. Four members of Quincy's team finished the race, while one crashed. ody Morrison, a freshman, did the best out of the team by placing seventh overall in the giant slalom race. Daniel Haygood took 18th while Dayne Lewis came in right on Haygood's trail in 19th place. Luke Zemple took 23rd and Che Rubalcava- Cunan did not finish. "The conditions are maintaining pretty good," said Quincy coach Katy Dyrr. "I was surprised at the quality of the snow. Even with this warm weather, the snow on the race course was fine." Quincy switched up the course Monday, Jan. 27, and raced at Alpine Meadows. Details will be in next week's Sports and Recreation section. Chester is scheduled to return to Northstar this Friday.
