8A Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 Feather River Bulletin Frienas of the Li The Quincy Friends of the Plumas County Library will hold its quarterly book sale Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 5 - 7, in the Quincy library meeting room. The event will be open to Friends members only Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m., and then open to everyone Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday's event overlaps a portion of the Groundhog Fever Festival, which is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. at the courthouse. Anyone interested in helping before, during or directly after the sale is invited to contact Diann Jewett at 283-3873. Memberships are available at $10 for one year (January through December), or $100 for a lifetime membership; either can be purchased during the sale. Friends members report this is a great time to stock up for more winter reading. Because books are consistently donated between sales, there are always new volumes to be discovered. The quarterly book sales have enabled the Friends group to make major purchases, such as 10 new HP computers and seating for the children's area. Funds raised also provide ongoing support for the library. In 2014 Friends provided $2,000 for new books, paid the audio and book-leasing subscriptions, added to the landscaping and funded the children's summer reading and after-school programs. For the sale, the fiction section will be in alphabetical order by author; Friends reports that this added Third-grader Jared Boyd spends a recent afternoon playing one of his favorite videogames at the Plumas County Library in Quincy. But it's not all fun and games; Boyd also uses the computers for his homework. The Quincy Friends of the Plumas County Library group purchased the bank of computers for the library. Photos by Debra Moore service continues to be appreciated by shoppers. Nonfiction books will continue to be categorized by subject, and volunteers will be available to assist during the sale. Gently used book donations are always appreciated, say members. Donations may be taken to the front desk of the library during normal business hours. The library staff screens the books for possible inclusion in the library collection and forwards the remainder to Friends for the book sales. Those who are unable to deliver their donations may call Jewett at 283-3873 to schedule a pickup. Listening to music videos is one of Kaitlyn Jay's favorite things to do. The Quincy Elementary School fifth-grader did just that Jan. 27 in the Quincy library. Sixth-graders at Quincy Elementary School listen as California Highway Patrol officer Jeff Rood discusses the dangers of substance abuse at the Alcohol and Other Drugs Education Carnival held in the school's cafeteria Jan. 29. The informative carnival gave sixth-graders the opportunity to learn about the consequences of alcohol and drug use and abuse prior to entering high school.
