Power outage doesn't stop Winter Hoopla celebration James Wilson Staff Writer Students and teachers at Quincy High School showed their school spirit last week during the weeklong Winter Hoopla celebration. The Winter Hoopla culminated in an awards and pep assembly powered by generators while the power was out last Friday. The game scheduled against Maxwell later that night was canceled due to weather. Each day during theweek had a theme for students to dress up, Mix-matched Monday started it off, with students wearing clashing patterns. On Tuesday, students paired with each other for twin day. On Wednesday, students donned their favorite sports attire. Throwback Thursday had students representing their favorite eras. In keeping with tradition, students wore red and white Friday: On Friday, the scheduled Quincy High School Students show their school pride last week, dressing up for Twin Tuesday. Students dressed up for a different theme each day of the weeklong Winter Hoopla, Photos by James Wilson assemblies were on the brink of cancellation until Principal Sue Segura drove home and grabbed her personal generator. Each high school class presented music videos they had filmed earlier. The senior class won best music video for its rendition of Mark Ronson's ,'Uptown Funk." Later in the day, students gathered to watch prize giveaways, dances and general: Hoopla shenanigans. Ethan Nyberg won Hoopla king while Justin Sage won prince. Kaylin Henderson was Nyberg's escort, while Tessah Belcher escorted Sage. Other king candidates included Jacob Burnworth, Chase McDonald and Brain DeMartfle. Riley Dupont and Avery Dyrr were the other two prince candidates. Big winner Rachelle EIIiott (Perkins) holds up the license-plate cover of the 2015 Toyota Corolla L she won on an episode of "The Price is Right" that aired Feb. 9. In addition to winning a new car, Quincy-raised Slliott also won S1,000 in cash, an electric guitar, a smart watch, a smartphone, a BMW 'motorcycle and a trip to London. In total, Elliott's winnings are worth $42,900.
