14C Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter FRC baseball takes doubleheader in Sacramento The Featler River College baseball team swept a doubleheader in Sacramento • i • last Thursday by scores of 6-4 • Over Sierra College and 9-3 over American River College. Due to the inclement weather on Friday and Saturday in Sacramento, the Golden Eagles had their trip moved up to Thursday so they could • beat the rain and get in the two games. With the sweep, the Golden Eagles are now 3-2 on the season. In the first game of the day on Thursday, the Golden Eagles traveled to Sierra College to take on the Wolverines and hung on for a hard fought, 6-4 victory. FRC received an outstanding start from sophomore Skylar Haynes, as he went an impressive six innings to get his first victory of the season. Haynes gave up four hits, two runs, and struck out one in his six innings of work. Freshman Brad Galisatus earned his first collegiate save by throwing an inning-and-a-third of scoreless relief. Offensively the Golden Eagles overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring two runs in the second inning and three runs in the third. In the second inning, freshman J.C. Montemayor and sophomore Gage Matuszak hit back-to-back doubles and sophomore Scott Dwyer drove in Matuszak with two outs with an RBI single up the middle to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. In the top of the third, sophomore Nathan Reynolds doubled to lead off the inning and scored when freshman Pete Shearer laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt and Sierra threw it away to allow Reynolds to score from second. Later in the inning Matuszak drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk, and freshman David Rapanot drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Golden Eagles up 5-1, The Golden Eagles had nine hits in the game led by Montemayor and Matuszak with two each. FRC 9, American River 3 For game two, the Golden Eagles made the 20-minute drive to American River College and beat the Beavers by a score of 9-3. The Golden Eagles received another good starting pitching performance for the fourth game in a row and the second of the year from sophomore O'Keeffe Hall, as he went five innings for his first victory of the season. Hall allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out three in his five Shutout innings of work. Three relievers finished off the final four innings as freshman Samson Abernathy threw two shutout innings and sophomore Mike Hoyes also threw two shutout innings to finish off the ' beavers. Once again, the Golden Eagles pounded out 10 hits offensively, led by Matuszak with his three hits and four RBIs. The Golden Eagles scored five runs in the top of the first inning as they batted around in the first. The big hits in the inning were delivered by sophomore Kila Zuttermeister and Matuszak, as both of them had two RBI Singles in the inning. Matuszak also had a two RBI double in the ninth inning to finish off the scoring for the Golden Eagles. Matuszak finished the day with five hits, six RBIs and two runs. Next up the Golden Eagles will play Yuba College on Thursday, West Valley College on Friday, and Cabrillo College on Saturday. Deer chow Question: I was at my local feed store today and was astounded to find bags of Purina •Deer Chow for sale, and another feed for wild pigs. I know it is illegal in California to feed big game animals, including deer, bear, elk, wild pigs and pronghorn. So why is it OK to sell deer food? I asked the proprietor and they said that it was not illegal to sell the food and that their customers wanted the producL Isn't this a little bit like saying it is OK to sell drugs, even if it is illegal to use them? Hunters are even allowed to bait them in some states, probably even with this feed.
