"American Hustle" brings together a wild FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) and a talented con man (Christian Bale) in a high-stakes drama. The true story of one man's fight for freedom is brought to life in "12 Years a Slave." Movie lineup continues despite booking difficulties In the season of awards shows and competitions, the Town Hall Theatre in Quincy is scheduling as many Dscar-nominated films as possible in the coming weeks. Because these movies are in ::high demand and fewer film i prints are being made, it can * be difficult o obtain date , commitments very far in iadvance. i "In general there are ienough film prints still in i circulation to keep our i theatre in business," ]explained Roxanne Valladao ifrom Phmas Arts, the 'organization that manages *the movie business. "But it has come to the point that we :will have to face the fact that, "in order to keep uP that level of service that we have worked so hard to gain that we will have to add a digital projection system. "We have just found an option that will allow us to make that conversion and keep our film projectors, which is something that is very important to us. As details are confirmed we will come to the public with our findings and go about making :it happen. "In the meantime we appreciate our many devoted patrons and their understanding about how very hard Plumas Arts works to keep the theatre a vital part of our cultural life and local economy." Local audiences have already seen many of the award-winning and nominated films at the hometown theatre. The next few films on the schedule and the theatre's "wish list" are up for Oscar nominations for best picture, actor, actress, director and more. Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, "Her" follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced opratiig'system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha," a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature -- and the risks --of intimacy in the modern world. This frontrunner for 2014 best picture Oscar is based on the book by Solomon Northup that was considered a "best-seller" at 30,000 copies back in 1853. "12 Years a .......... Slave" is based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and Comedy Night fundraiser to be held Feb. 14 The Association of -Concerned Theatregoers invites the public to a night of humor, libations and Valentine's Day celebration as it hosts the fourth annual , Comedy Night fundraiser at the Town Hall Theatre. The featured act of the night is professional comedian Cole Young. Young grew up in Quincy and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and the performing arts. He has been a stand-up comedian for the past decade and has performed at many different venues in southern California. The Comedy Night is a main fundraiser for the association and helps provide scholarships and finances toward local theatre. "ACT is the only organization that provides funding for live theater in our community," said association president James Shipp. "We have brought in some funny folks; this should be the best Comedy Night yet."
