6C Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 uu.eun, Kecorcl, e'rogresswe, I~epor~er James Wilson Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com There's something about playing Lassen College that makes the Golden Eagles women's basketball team fight, and last Saturday, the Lady Eagles fought hard. Feather River College took down its rival 83-51 in a game it had control of from the beginning. The Eagles haven't played as well this season as they have in the past. The win against Lassen marks their second in conference play. The victory brought FRC's overall record to 6-17 and its conference record to2-7. FRC's victory was much needed for the team, which lost its prior five games. Incidentally, FRC's last win was also against Lassen, which has a 0-9 conference record. "This was the best team effort we've had all year," commented FRC coach Haley White. "We clicked offensively and defensively. I don't know what it is, l ut something about playing Lassen really draws the fight out in our girls." The Eagles took an early lead and led 46-33 at the half. Though FRC had the lead, White cautioned her team to not take it for granted. "At halftime, I told the team that they need to maintain the 13-point cushion, but hopefully they would widen it," said White. FRC took White's words to heart and outscored Lassen 37-18 in the second half. The Eagles' points were spread out, with every player scoring. Ashley Duke was FRC's top scorer, with 19 points. Duke went five for six at the free-throw line. Ashley Hibbard also performed well with 16 points and went five for seven with free throws. Ashley Duke matched Hibbard with 16 points, 12 of which came from three-pointers. FRC has one game remaining in its season. The Lady Eagles will head to Butte College on Feb. 20 to play at 5:30 p.m. Feather River College's Summer Dressier checks out her passing options during the Lady Eagles" 83-51 win over Lassen College last Saturday.
