In the end, Brady Rick said the team is looking forward to the playoffs, but had to get through Maxwell and Esparto before they could even think of any accolades beyond an MVL championship. "It would have been easy to look toward the game with Maxwell or Esparto while we were busy with the fight against Portola, but we have worked hard this season to take it just one game at a time," Rick added. "The playoffs will come, but we still have work to do." The win for Quincy mathematically gave the squad the MVL championship at 6,01 though the players could not completely grasp the trophy until there was one more win under their belt. That win would come the next night against the No. 3 squad in league, the Maxwell Panthers. Quincy 83, Maxwell 66 After dispatching Portola, the No. 2 competitor to Quincy in MVL standings so far this season, the Trojans had to face No. 3 league foe Maxwell the next night at home. The game, which carried implications for the playoff picture of both teams, was a proverbial walk in the park for Woodlee' s squad as they bested the Panthers, 78-51, to rise to a 7-0 record in league: Leading the scoring effort for Quincy, Jakob Grammer earned 21 points and had a pair of three-pointers. DJ Davis was even more accurate from beyond the arc as he put up six treys and logged 20 points of his own. Crowe Herbertson-Deemer was .also a double-digit playmaker with 10 points. Freshman Jake Rick ended with nine pointsand Brady Rick, taking a back seat offensively, scored eight points, though he was the king of defense, grabbing 25 rebounds in the game.
