2B Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2010 Bulletin, Progressive, Record, Reporter VITAL STATISTICS OBITUARIES Joyce Ann Hamar Joyce Ann Hamar went to be i/i .... ::i.c:i with her Lord and Savior Jan. 27, 2010. She had been a resident of Manor Care in Reno, Nev., for the last five years. Joyce was born July 18, 1931, in Elmira, N.Y., to Lu- cille and Ray Green. Her fam- ily migrated west to North- ern California where her fa- ther worked in forestry. Joyce graduated from Lassen Union High School in 1950. It was in Susanville that Joyce met her future hus- band, Bruce Hamar. They married May 13, 1951. They had three children and moved to Sparks, Nev., where they lived for more than 20 years. The family enjoyed taking many camping trips through- out Nevada and California. After raising their chil- dren, Joyce and Bruce re- turned to Indian Valley and lived in Greenville. Bruce passed away in 1996, and Joyce soon returned to Reno where her oldest daughter, Christy, provided for her care until her death. Joyce is survived by her brother Arthur Green; chil- dren Christy Fermoile, Reno; Carol Clausen, Litchfield, Minn.; and John Hamar, Greenville. She also has three grandchildren, Jessica and Kelly Clausen and Nicholas Fermoile. Family and friends are in- vited to attend a gathering of remembrances at the Main Street Dinner House, at 11 a.m. with burial following at 1 p.m., at the Greenville Cemetery. Robert H. St. Germain Robert H. St. Germain passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2010, at his home in Blairsden, with his wife Glo- ria at his side. He and Gloria were very grateful for the love, guidance and support provided by so many -- par- ticularly Pastor Mike Pre- ston, caregivers Kim and Hei- di from hospice, and Kathy Roth and Pat Grew, also from hospice, who always put a smile on his face. Bob was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to George Henry St. Germain and Louise Arnold St. Germain. After graduation from high school in 1950, he enlisted in the Navy to satisfy his desire for travel. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1954, Bob attended Plattsburg State University graduating in 1960 with a BS in education. During his senior year he was elected president of the House of Delegates, the stu- dent governing body. It was the first time a student had ever been elected as a write- in candidate. He also founded a chapter of the Student Education As- sociation of New York State, and was elected first vice- president of the Student Na- tional Education Association. The university had pre- pared him well for teaching, and he taught sixth grade for three years in White Plains, N.Y. However, his education and experiences led Bob to make a greater contribution to education through a long and rewarding career as a teacher advocate. He served four years as a staff member with the New York State Teachers Associa- tion, three years as executive director of the Rochester Teachers Association, one year as a negotiation special- ist with the National Educa- tion Association, five years as executive director of the Palm Beach County Florida Teachers Association and 20 years as the executive direc- tor of the Fresno Teachers Association. Shortly after arriving in Fresno in 1975, Bob met Gloria, the love of his life. They were married in South Lake Tahoe Nov. 24, 1990, and they enjoyed 19 more years together. All those who knew him and shared time on the golf course with him, would agree that golf was Bob's number one passion. He especially en- joyed his times playing with friends at Fig Garden Golf Course. After retirement, Bob and Gloria moved to the Graeagle area to enjoy the beautiful mountains and golf courses of the Sierra Nevada. He loved the many rounds of golf enjoyed with children, grand- children and good friends. Bob was preceded in death by his father, George and mother, Louise St. Germain and his brothers, Barney and Richard St. Germain. Bob is survived by his wife Gloria; daughter Tina Kunkel; sons, William Kandarian (Brandi), Michael Kandarian (Denise); Arthur Mendoza (Lisa); Nick Kunkel; seven grandchildren, Ashley Gaynor (Las Vegas, Nev.), Brian Gaynor (Clovis), Weston and Wade Kandarian (Fresno), Cassie, Stephanie and Dylan Kandarian (Fres- no); one great-grandson, Noah James Dacanay (Las Vegas); mother-in-law Toni Chavez (Orosi); as well as three brothers, John St. Ger- main (Maryann) of Cadyville, N.Y'., Jim St. Germain (Joyce) of Plattsburg, N:Y., George St. Germain of Katyville, N.Y.; and three sisters, Mary Welhouse (Jim) of Wisconsin, Pat St. Germain of Florida, Kate Williams of Plattsburg, N.Y.; sister-in-law Sandy St. Germain; and 21 nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 19, in Fres- no. Bob will be buried in Plattsburg, N.Y., with a memorial service to be held there at a later date. The family suggests dona- tions may be made to Tahoe Forest Hospice, PO Box 7569, Truckee, CA 96160. Barbara (Bolton) Powers Barbara Powers passed away Feb. 13, 2010, after a bat- tle with cancer. She was born March 10, 1944, to Earl and Thelma BoRon who preceded her in death, and was raised on a chicken farm in San Leandro. Barbara was the youngest of three children. She met George Edward in 1965 while working for Dailey Chevrolet. They married June 17, 1967, and he was the love of her life. They moved to Union City where she worked at East Bay Excavating until she retired. She had always dreamed of a home in the country where she could look out at a mead- ow and cows. They found that property in Clio. While she still worked they started to build their home. Upon retiring they moved in. Their home was built for enter- taining and with George at her side as her sous chef, she made fabulous dinners. Her hobby was to cook, entertain family and friends or plan an outing with those she loved. She loved to play any kind of card game and Chinese checkers. She passed away at their home. At her bedside was husband George, brother and sister-in-law Ed and Barbara Bolton, sister and brother-in- law Nancy and Nell Linfoot, niece and husband Karl and Doug White, nephew Mark Bolton; stepchildren David Powers and Laurie Craig. She also leaves behind great-nephews Chance, Macklin, Caleb and their mother Danette BoRon, step- daughter Wendy Byrd, step- grandchildren, Ryan and Natalie Powers, Alexander and Patrick Craig and Cody and Angela Byrd and many, many friends in and around Valley Ranch.
