Bulletin, Progressive, Record, Reporter Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2010 11B SPORTS and RE(00'REATION Lady Tigers beat Los Molinos in playoff match Shannon Morrow Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.corn The Portola High School girls' basketball team won their first playoff game at home against Los Molinos Feb. 23, when the Tigers post- ed a 5840 victory. This advanced Portola, seeded sixth, to a quarterfi- nal match up against third- seeded Etna last Thursday, Feb. 25. The Tigers were de- feated 57-46. In their first-round win against Los Molinos, Portola outscored their opponent 8-2 in the first quarter and 19-8 in the second quarter to take a 27-10 lead at halftime. After the break, Los Moli- nos came out and scored the first nine points of the second half. Midway through the fourth quarter, Los Molinos had worked back to within six points of Portola at 41-35. This prompted Portola to take a full time out, after which the Tigers went on a 17-5 run for a convincing win. Anna Roach scored 14 tioints for Portola, making eight of 10 shots from the free-throw line. Emma Briggs totaled 12 points for the Tigers, fol- lowed by Bailey Holt with nine and Cassidy Ledwig with seven. On the boards, Briggs pulled in eight rebounds. Lindsey Compton and Roach made seven rebounds apiece, while Holt and Ledwig each grabbed five. Compton registered four blocks. Compton and Holt each snagged four steals, while Compton and Ledwig delivered two assists apiece.
