4C Wednesday, March 5, 2014 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter James Wilson Sports Editor sports@plurnasnews.com "Well, we didn't really play that well the first half," said Chester girls' basketball coach John Potter on the Lady Volcanoes' final game of the season. "I was proud how the girls ended the second half, though. They really fought back." Chester made it into the Division VI playoffs seeded 12th with a 4-20 overall record. On Feb. 26, the Lady Volcanoes took on the No. 5 seed, Maxwell, and lost 60-28 due to an abysmal first half. Defensively, Chester shifted in and out of coverage, allowing subsequent opportunities for Maxwell to score. On offense, the Volcanoes kept giving up the outside shots and couldn't manage to get the ball inside. Maxwell walked all over Chester, leading the Volcanoes 25-6 at halftime and shutting them out in the second quarter. Potter adjusted the lineup in the second half and Chester, though still outscored, played better ball. In the second half, Chester scored 11 points per quarter. Many of Maxwell's points were made from the free-throw line. Chester had some foul trouble and put Chester's Haylee Potter moves the ball Potter scored 16 points during the Lady last Wednesday.
