Photos by Tyson Schroeder Lassen Grizzlies reach title game Brian Taylor Sports Editor The Lassen High School girls basketball team made the final round of the section playoffs after securing a 67-57 advantage over the Gridley Bulldogs at home on Tues- day, March 2. The win marked the first time since 1984 that the Lady Grizzlies advanced to the sec- tLon ifmal,al!d,.Lth giis .,re hungry for a win, . .... A win will not be easy as Lassen is scheduled to face a tough Central Valley squad. Lassen has taken one win and one loss against C.V. and according to Coach Paul Moore is up for the chal- lenge. "We had the best offensive performance of the year against Gridley," said Moore. "We passed the ball extremely well and we were able to get some easy baskets in transitions early on. If we can continue to do that we will do well at sections." In the first quarter of play Lassen's Sierra Hicks went out with an injury after a col- lision when a Gridley player left her with a dislocated shoulder. "Sierra's injury really af- fected our team," said Moore. "The girls were down after it happened and all their thoughts were with Sierra. Before she was injured she had already put up six points and grabbed four rebounds." The team was able to over- come, turning their depres- slon. into an offenswe on- s:laught for fhe dllen team- mate. : Lassen's Carlotta Kloppen- burg led the team with 22 points followed by Raeyel Shepherd with 12, Taylor Waddell with 10, Haylee Shaffer with six, Ashley Wil- son and Cheyenne Ratkey with five apiece and Tyanna Zinn with three. Shaffer led the team with 11 rebounds followed by Shepherd and Wilson each with six. The section champi- onships were held at 11 a.m. at Chico State University. No results were available at press time. Check lassen- for updates. Lassen's Haylee Shaffer, No. 2, heads to the basket in a 67-57 win over Gridley in last week's semifinals. Shaffer had 11 re- bounds on the night.
