James ended the game with nine points. • CHESTER, from page 1C room during the break In his most productive quarter of the game, Durkin unleashed for eight points off three buckets and a two-of-two showing from the free-throw line. James added five of his own, thanks to a bucket and trey from just beyond the line. An unremarkable fourth period saw the Vols only put up eight James, a junior for the Vols, said he has been counting his blessings for playing under the trio of seniors, though he is looking forward to what his senior season in green and black will hold. "I loved playing with the seniors this season and they helped me learn quite a bit about the game," James said. "I believe this was a good season for us as a team, but I points, with the trio of am looking forward to next Sawyer Durkin, WYatt - : season now." Durkin and James adding:to ,-, Simms. in his second year Chester's 40-point showing. After the game, a tearful Wyatt Durkin recounted his thoughts on the passing of his senior season -- and what he thought the team's mental state was in Round 3 of the playoffs. "It was a different season. to say the least, and we went through a lot, losing a couple of guys, so I think this final group is about as tightly wound up as possible," Durkin said. "It's sad for me to see this team go, especially this way." Perez also added his own twist on looking back at the 29 games his team endured throughout 2014 and 2015. "I was out for just a few of those games, but I loved every minute of it, when I came back," Perez said. "We killed it this season and tonight just wasn't Our night. I wish it would have been but we didn't come out hot like we should have." Rounding out the seniors for the Vols, Jer White echoed the sentiments of Perez, though he added what his plans are after graduation from Chester in May. "It was a great season for • me because I got to play with this group of guys and, even though I wish it would have gone on longer than tonight, it didn't happen• I got called up to varsity in my sophomore year and I was, at first, a little intimidated by Wyatt and Eddy. Once Tristan joined the team, though, it was a lot easier for me to grow alongside them," White said. "After school, I am really looking forward to going to either a junior college or Nevada." as h6ad cbach for the Vols, has earned a combined regular season win-loss record of 41-14 and a post-season record of 4-2, making it to the third round of the playoffs in each of those seasons. After the game. he recounted his thoughts on the season and the game against the Cougars. "It was an up-and-down season for us starting out," Simms said. "We started out 6-7 before we went 11-2 down the stretch and we hit our stride at that moment in the season. Tonight just wasn't the night for us. Regardless, I am really proud of these guys because, when we were 6-7, they could have given up and quit. They didn't. They just kept working and turned the season around. As far as • tonight's game went, they have four guys that score about 90 percent of their points. Our job was to stop them and we simply didn't." The Vols' shooting was anything but stellar in the game; players went 18 of 51 and Wyatt Durkin missed his 20-point average scoring routine with a total of 16 in the game. Following Wyatt, James earned nine points, which included a three-pointer. Perez finished with six, while Sawyer Durkin completed a pair of field goals for four. Sylvester's trey provided his only points of the game and Jason Schlueter rounded out the scorers with a deuce. The Vols were named the 2015 co-champions of the Five-Star League, along with Liberty Christian. after both squads posted a 7-1 league record.
