4C Wednesday, March 14, 2012 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter 25-6 The Portola High School girls' basketball team finishes its season with an overall record of 25-6, after advancing to the Northern Section title match and qualifying for the California State championship brackets. In the opening round Wednesday, March 7, the visiting Tigers lost 71-25 to International High School, a private French- American school in San Francisco that costs more than $30,000 a year to attend. Porto|a earned the runner-up award in Northern Section Division V and went Ondefeated in the Mid-Valley South for the league title. Photo by Shannon Morrow QHS softball opens season in Redding The Quincy High School softball team played in the Anderson Cubs small school varsity tournament, the Big League Dreams, in Redding last weekend. The Trojans went 3-2. The Quincy Trojans met Anderson and their all-state pitcher in the first game and lost 0-8. Quincy pitchers Elaina Amodei and Brooke Potter did an excellent job, allowing only one earned run. Amodei took the loss. In the second game, Quin- cy played Trinity High School and won 9-2. Senior Julie Newton batted three for three and scored twice. Senior Sarah McKenzie went two for three with a triple and scored twice. The Trojans met Fall Riv- er in the third game of the day and won 5-3. Amodei pitched three innings and gave up just one run. She held Fall River to four sin- gles, striking out three with one base on balls. Potter pitched the final three innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs, and striking out five. Hope Brown got Quincy on the board first with some fantastic base running. Sarah Mckenzie got on board with a walk, stole two bases and scored on a single by Wright. Sherman also. singled, stole two bases'nd scored for the Trojans. Amodei also helped out the cause by scoring in the fifth after get- ting on base with a single. Quincy's fourth game was against Redding Christian, and the Trojans won 11-5. Quincy scored first in the third inning after Amodei tripled and then a perfectly executed bunt by Amanda Dorris brought her home. Amodei pitched six in- nings and Potter came in to pitch with a lead. Redding Christian came back strong in the seventh and tied up the game, sending it to a tie. breaker. With Samantha Keely at second, Newton moved her to third on a single and Sherman brought her home. Quincy went on to score a total of seven runs that in- ning. Shayla Sennet went two for four with a triple, a sin- gle and an RBI, scoring twice. Brown went two for two and scored twice. The Trojans lost their fi- nal game to Modoc. Quincy was in it through four in- nings, down 2-1, until last year's NSCIF Division V runner-up got it going in the fifth. Quincy gave up five un- earned runs on seven errors in the fifth and sixth in- nings. Keely was the offensive highlight for Quincy, going two for two with two dou- bles and scoring Quincy's two runs.
