The project area is located approximately seven air miles northeast of Portola, CA, and is comprised of 47 acres of National Forest System lands, and 206 acres of pri- vate land. '['he course, also a require- ment of the California Depart- ment of Fish and Game to ob- tain a hunting license, will be offered twice in Chester, in April and May and again in July and August. Class dates for the first course are April 26 - 27 and May 3 - 4, 6 - 9 p.m. all four evenings. The course also in- cludes four hours on the shooting range outside of Westwood. The second course is sched- uled for July 26 -27 and Aug. 2 - 3, also from 6 - 9 p.m. The 10-hour course, specifi- cally designed for hunting, al- so offers an excellent intro- duction to firearms safety. In addition to firearms safe- ty and maintenance, the course offers information on wildlife conservation and management, ,:hunter ethicsgurvival, first aid and much mm, e. , A certificate of completion will be awarded upon the suc- cessful completion of the course. Students must attend all four classes in the course and pass a test of 100 questions with a passing score of at least 80. While the class is offered twice a year, there is no make-up for a missed class. Students missing a class must sign up and complete all four classes in the next education offering. Although there is no age limit for class participation, children enrolled must be able to read independently, comprehend course materials and pass the written examina- tion "without parental assis- tance." The class is offered at the Chester Memorial Hall, on the corner of Stone and Gay Streets. There is a $10 class adminis- trative fee to cover the cost of all necessary course materials.
