Golden Eagles used good On the mound, a trio of se QUINCY MOVING oe pitching, great defense and Golden Eagles carried the timely hitting to sweep a three-game Golden Valley Conference series from Shasta College. The Golden Eagles opened up the series Friday with an 11-0 win and followed that up Saturday with a double- header sweep by scores of 11-3 and 11-1. With the sweep, the Gold- en Eagles are now 16-4 on the season and 10-1 in con- ference. Friday, the Golden Eagles rode the pitching arm of freshman Aaron Corwin, as he threw six scoreless in- nings while striking out four in the 11-0 victory. The Golden Eagles' offense struck early: as FRC scored four runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third to stake Corwin to an 8-0 lead after three innings. Fellow freshman Cody An- derson, Drew Simpson and Nick Dufur finished up the shutout by pitching a score- less inning apiece. Offensively, the Golden Eagles banged out 11 hits, led by freshman Dayton Alexander with three hits, four RBIs and a home run. Sophomore Thomas Mc- Carthy also added two hits, as did freshman Casey Yocom. In Saturday's first game, Alexander once again led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, as the Golden Eagles won game one of the doubleheader 11-3. The of- fense pounded out 12 hits all together, with nine different players getting at least one hit. Freshman Casey Yocom was the other Golden Eagle who had a multi-hit game, as he had two hits and scored two runs. Fellow freshman Hunter Graves homered for load, with freshman Tyler Hoelzen getting his third victory of the season in five innings of work. Hoelzen al- lowed three hits, one run, and struck out five. Sophomores Dylan Giesler and Joey Webb finished up the last four innings for the Golden Eagles. In the second game Satur- day, the Golden Eagles used an eight-run second inning to cruise to the 11-1 victory and the sweep of the series. Freshman lefty Rob Coop- er picked up his third victo- ry of the season, as he went five solid innings, allowing one run, two hits and strik- ing out eight. Freshman Chris Mueller, sophomore Tony Robinson, and freshman Cody Ander- son finished off the victory in relief, allowing no runs. Offensively, the. Golden Eagles pounded out 13 hits in the second game. Four freshmen led the way with two hits apiece; Dayton Alexander, AJ Alexander, Kolt Canaday and Victor Mendoza. Dayton Alexander and Mendoza also each hit home runs, driving in three runs and two runs, respectively. Today, March 31, the Gold- en Eagles are scheduled to play Diablo Valley College at Delta College, starting at 11 a.m. The Golden Eagles will then return home for a three-game GVC home se- ries against College of the Redwoods, beginning with a doubleheader Friday, April 2, at 1 p.m. A single game is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, at noon.
