According to the Butte County sheriff and district attorney, the investigation into the deaths of Cromberg residents Mike and Olga Kroencke is ongoing. They are still seeking information in the case. Butte County Assistant District Attorney Leah Payne told Feather Publishing that Hendrix remains the only person of interest in the case. The Kroenckes were found shot to death Dec. 20 about a half-mile from Galen Ridge Road and Ore-Quincy Highway. Their bodies were discovered in their sport utility vehicle a short distance from a home they owned on The man considered the only person of interest in the Dec. 20, 2014, shooting deaths of a Plumas County husband and wife has not been charged with murder. GD Hendrix, 44, of Berry Creek, is scheduled to have a Fr00_ hunter safety course set for Greenville Sunday, April 26, starting at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. All classes begin at the Greenville Masonic Lodge on Main Street and finish at the Greenville firing range. Organizers suggest participants bring a sack lunch for the Saturday classes. Students must attend all classes and range training and pass a written test to receive their California Hunter' Safety Card. There are no age restrictions, but students should be able to read the safety manual and understand the test questions. Kids under 18 must have a parent or guardian's permission to handle firearms. Hunter education instructor Frank Williams is offering a three-session course for hunter safety certification, free of charge. Successful participants will receive their California Hunter Safety Card. The first class will be Saturday, April 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next will be Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the third WE Galen Ridge Road in the foothills north of Oroville. After receiving a tip, Butte County sheriffs officers arrested Hendrix and his mother, 67-year-old Lotta Hendrix, on Jan. 6. GD Hendrix, who lived in a residence near the Kroenckes in Berry Creek, was heavily armed when he was apprehended at the Canyon Creek Store at 9607 Ore-Quincy Highway. Officers found Hendrix had an AK-47-style semi-automatic assault rifle loaded with a 30-round magazine strapped to his back. He also had a loaded .22-caliber revolver on his waist and a loaded .223-caliber hunting pistol slung over his right arm. He had a concealed dagger and brass knuckles hung around his neck. He was in possession of methamphetamine when he was arrested. Hendrix is being held in the Butte County jail on $1 million bail. The Chico Enterprise-Record reported Hendrix underwent an evaluation after doubt was expressed about his mental competence, according to defense attorney Robert Marshall. On March 25, Hendrix was found to be competent and the preliminary hearing date was set for today. Lotta Hendrix is not a person of interest in the Kroencke cases. She was charged with possessing a destructive device stemming from a search of the Hendrix residence, The charge was dismissed Jan. 28, when Lotta Hendrix pleaded no contest to a felony count of possessing an explosive device. She was placed on three years of formal probation. According to a Kroencke family member, the Kroenckes had confrontations with GD Hendrix in the weeks prior to their deaths. The family member said the Kroenckes told Hendrix to stay away from their property.
