Published FRB, IVR, PR, CP April 8, 15, 22, 29, 20151 FRC 9, Siskiyous 0 Coach Baumgartner's baseball team enhanced their leader's birthday with a pair of conference wins over College of the Siskyous on Friday in Weed. Baumgartner doubly enjoyed his special day April 3 when his squad took 5-2 and 9-0 Golden Valley Conference victories. The league-leading Golden Eagles improved to 21-7 on the season and to 15-2 in the GVC. Siskyous dropped to 10-18 overall and to 6-11 in conference action. As the recipe has been all season, the Golden Eagles used outstanding starting pitching and scored runs in bunches to sweep the doubleheader. In the first game, FRC broke open a scoreless pitchi.ng duel between O'Keeffe Hall and Siskyous' Kevin Bevilacqua with four runs in the fifth inning during the 5-2 victory. RBI base knocks by Eli Putnam, Rex Campbell and David Rapanot gave Hall all the runs he needed to improve to 7-0 on the season. Hall went eight innings and gave up only four hits and no earned runs to drop his league-leading ERA to 0.56. He walked three and fanned eight, moving his GVC strikeout leadership to 61. Brad Galisatus picked up his third save of the season. Third baseman Samson Abernathy had two hits, as did Campbell and Nathan Reynolds. Campbell added a pair of stolen bases and Reynolds swiped three bags. In Game 2, Connor Briare also improved to 7-0 like his teammate Hall, cruising through seven innings in the 9-0 triumph. Briare dropped his miniscule ERA to 1.15 in 2015 by spacing out four walks while fanning six. He had a no-hitter in the books until Brett Doyle singled for the Eagles in the fifth stanza. Briare did not allow a Siskyous runner past second base. Offensively;:Eeather River laced 15 hits and busted up a 2-0 game with two runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth. Putnam had three of his team's hits, all two-baggers. He also had a pair of stolen bases to push his GVC-leading total to 21. Reynolds had a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Rapanot, Peter Shearer and Gage Matuszak each had two base knocks. Matuszak had a pair of RBIs, giving him 39 on the year, best in the conference. He is also hitting .436 this spring. CAL OUTDOORS, from page 2C Each state in the country receives federal grant money from the Sport Fish Restoration Act, which provides funding generated from federal excise tax on sales of sport fishing tackle and motorboat fuels. This program funds critical fish habitat restoration projects throughout the state, providing increased fishing opportunities for California anglers. A tiered system is used to allocate grants to the states. In 2014, California received the maximum grant of $16,287,011, which is 5 percent of the total available to all the states. Federal SFRA grant amounts are based partially on the number of licenses issued in each state. If California license sales declined by as little as 3 percent, California's grant would be reduced to a lower tier and the grant amount would be reduced by approximately $2.7 million to $4.5 million, further reducing CDFW,s ability to manage and protect California's fisheries. So, while we realize your license restructuring suggestion is popular, it would create a significant reduction in license revenue and sport fish grant funding for CDFW. The resulting reduction in revenue and grant funding would reduce the CDFW's ability to manage and protect California's fisheries; and it would reduce the number offish CDFW could plant for California anglers.
