Photo by James Wilson Tennis season starts James Wilson Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com Though the start to its season was slightly delayed due to weather, Quincy's tennis team got offto a good start April 3 against Downieville. The Trojans hosted their first set of matches and came out the winner. The majority of this year's team had never played before, and players are still learning the ins and outs of the game. Due to the inexperience of many of the players, it came as a surprise to Quincy coach Matt McMorrow how well the team did. "I was so proud of all of them," commented McMorrow. "They came out for the first time and were a bit nervous, but they still went out and did great. Also, they had fun, and that is what is most important." Every newcomer to the sport on Quincy's team ended up winning his or her match. Tailor Walmer, Nathan Ross, Kendal Hicks and Taylor Bruzza all started their high school tennis careers with wins. Mathew Abramson and Ethan Hicks played on the team last year and had more experience coming into last Thursday's matches. Both players used their experience to take down their opponents for two more Quincy wins. Quincy's tennis team will continue its season Thursday at Paradise. On April 25 - 26, the Trojans will host the 36th annual Quincy Invitational tennis tournament, with multiple teams showing up to compete. FRC, from page lC Erickson made quite an impact on the Eagles' game. Erickson has the best ERA in the Golden Valley Conference and the third best in California at 0.38. Erickson allowed only 13 hits in 23 innings pitched. Desguin leads the conference in strikeouts with 59. Desguin averages 10.48 per game. Haynes leads the GVC with six wins. Kuhlman, FRC's most successful closer, has the most saves at nine. If the numbers are any indication, it seems that FRC is in good shape on the mound. Desguin pitched for the Eagles in the first game against Siskiyous last Saturday and gave up no runs. Erickson was FRC's top pitcher during the preseason. The sophomore pitcher strained his forearm during the Eagles' first conference game, however, and has been out for more than a month now. Erickson will return to the mound April 9 at College of the Redwoods. Erickson's return will widen the Eagles' depth even more. Another aspect to FRC's performance that can win it the championship lies in its ability to steal bases. Kaimana Perreira-Alquiza leads the conference in stolen bases with 12. Eli Putnam, also on the Eagles, is right behind Perreira- Alquiza with 11. Butte leads the conference in all aspects of hitting, however. In addition to playing Redwoods this week, FRC will host Lassen College in a doubleheader April 12. The first game will start at 1 p.m. The last time the two teams faced each other, FRC swept Lassen in a three-game series. 2004 DODGE NEON SXT 2013 4 CYL., AUTO, A/C, 4 CYL., AUTO, P/W, P/L, P/W, P/L, AM/FM/CD, CRUISE, .....
