2B Wednesday, April 24, 2013 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter VITAL S'?ATISTIC OBITUARIES Thomas Michael Hafterson Lake Almanor resident Thomas Michael Hafterson left us to joins his father and brother in their eternal home with the Lord, Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Enloe Medical Center located in Chico. Born July 24, 1959, in Sonoma, to Russell and Betty (Lyseng) Hafterson, he spent his early years in Sonoma until moving with his family to Chester in 1968 and later to Lake Almanor. He is a 1978 graduate of Chester High School. Tom's Lutheran faith was established at a young age through his parents' devotion to the church. He had been a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Chester. Tom had a special love of the Lake Almanor area and especially enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels around his home as well as taking in stray cats. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed NASCAR. In passing, Tom leaves his loving mother, Betty, of Lake Almanor; sister, Joni VerPlanck and her husband Steve, of Chester; brother, Robert of Lake Almanor; his niece Lexie Weathers, of Salem, Ore.; nephews, Casey and Cory Clark, both of Chester; along with his very special companion, his cat "Mouse." He joins his father, Russell and brother David in their eternal home. A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, May 4, 1 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 161 Aspen Street, Chester. Inurnment will take place in the Chester District Cemetery at 2 p.m., Friday, May 3. Perkins July 24, 1931 - April 9, 2013 Gordon V. Perkins was a member of Quincy Jr.-Sr. High School faculty from 1956 - 1962: He taught classes in Social Studies and coached school sports programs before moving to the San Francisco area to pursue a career in the educational textbook publishing business. After graduating from Bates College of Maine in 1953, Gordon served as an infantry officer in the 1st Marine Division deployed to Korea. During his later years, Gordon and his wife served as volunteers at many National and State Parks in the southwest region of the country. He is survived by his second wife, Nona; son Scott Perkins, of Sacramento; daughter Gall Gigantino, of Kennesaw, Ga.; grandchildren Holly and Jack Jr.; stepdaughter Tana of Denver, Colo.; and brother Roger Perkins of Auburn. Born in Everett, Wash., on Oct. 9, 1938, to the late Oliver and Elva (Ferdon) Larson he was raised and educated up and down the west coast as the family followed Pete's father in his career in the oil industry. Pete graduated from Chico High School as a member of the "Class of 1956" and went on to attend Chico State for two years before joining the military and serving his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1960. Upon his discharge he returned to college attending San Jose State where he graduated with a bachelors degree in accounting and obtained his certified public accountants license. He went to work first in the Bay Area and shortly thereafter moved to Sacramento, where he also obtained his masters degree in finance and business education from Sacramento State College. He continued to work as a CPA while also beginning what became a 30-year career in teaching. In 1969, shortly following the opening of Butte community college, he joined their faculty as a computer science and accounting teacher retiring in 1999. During his teaching career he also did consulting and research work in his field. He took great pridein sharing his knowledge with others. It is while teaching at Butte Community College he caught the eye of a pretty student, Linda Nelson, an encounter that later led to their marriage in Denali Park, Alaska, on Aug. 25, 1994. The couple settled in the Northeastern California community of Lake Almanor West where they were members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Pete had a passion for the outdoors and took part in just about .every outdoor activity available;, from kayaking,to fishing tO'hiking and  ..... camping and enjoyed every moment of his outdoor life. He loved to travel and had a special affinity for the outdoors of Alaska. Pete was a commercial, 2-DAY EVENT Friday, May 3rd Saturday, May 4th 8am - 5pm n Hwy 89, Greenville I 284-7313 instrument general aviation pilot with a multi engine rating who yearned to add a float plane rating to his certificate. He loved to share his joy of aviation with others especially the youth of the community. Pete was also an automobile aficionado. In passing, Pete leaves his loving wife Linda, of Lake Almanor West; sons, Russell Wiseman of Juneau, Alaska, Eric Larson and his wife Asayo, of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Lecia Kahklen and her husband Keith, of Juneau, Alaska, Julie Klingbeil and her husband A1, of Steilacoom, Wash., and Kristin Price and her husband Alfie, of Juneau, Alaska; hisprecious grandchildren Oskar, Amber, Abbiegail, Samuel, Katy and Joel; dear cousins Kathleen "Lil Sis" and Mark Toms, of Dallas, Texas; along with longtime dear friend Tom Duffey. A celebration of Pete's life was held April 19, at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Chester. Interment will take place in the Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, Wash. Joseph Lee Kempton (Brandi). Aiso his siblings, Lucille Griffin, James Kempton (Nancy), Patricia Martin (George), and Irene Harden (Patrick). Also 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. After serving in the U.S. Air Force and completing h CHP academy, Joe and his family moved from Southern California to Quincy in 1971. He was not only a valued and trusted member of the Plumas County Highway Patrol until his retirement in 1991, but he was also a respected member of the community. Joe and Lynette were founding members of the Meadow Valley Church in 1978 and Joe sat on the church's elder and deacon board for many years. During his residence in Quincy, Joe also sold real estate and owned High Tech auto body shop. Joe loved his Community and served it with the same love and integrity with which he cared for his family. While Joe will be missed by many, his family is comforted to know that his body and mind are finally made whole again as he rests peacefully in the arms of his Savior. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Meadow Valley Church on May 4, 2013, at 11 am. A reception and time to pay respects to the family will immediately follow. Thomas Charles Hammerson Long-time Quincy resident and retired CHP officer Joseph Lee Kempton (known by his friends and family as "Joe") finished his 10-year battle with Alzheimer's on April 15, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Lynette Kempton, along with his five children: Kelly Wheaton (Jim), Kristy Cordell (Tom), Kori Kempton, Karyn Kempton and Joe Kempton November 17, 1927 - April 16, 2013. Thomas was a native of Oakland, and attended Fremont High School. Following high school he enlisted in the Coast Guard where he served for three-and-a-half years, attaining the rating of Radioman 2nd class.
