The three teams have had to play outside the county until then. Now that courses in Plumas County are opening for the season, these teams won't need to travel as far to hit the green. Photo by James Wilson Horses Unlimited tourney set for May 18 The 13th annual Horses Unlimited Inc. Charity Golf Tournament, started by the late Jody Lindroth, will be held Saturday, May 18, at Plumas Pines Golf Resort in Blairsden. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start will take place at noon; There will be two flights, each with its own format. Flight No. i will be a four-person team scramble, and Flight No. 2 will be a four-person team playing low net best bails. Partial teams and singles are welcome and will be matched up by Plumas Pines. The event is limited to the first 80 players. Golfers are encouraged to register by May 13. The tax-deductible entry fee is $100 per person and includes green fee, cart and one ticket to Longboard Bar & Grill's after-golf appetizer buffet. Non-golfers can buy buffet tickets for $15. There will be a no-host bar and prize drawings. Enter by May 13 in order to receive a free bucket of range balls for practice. A $10,000 cash prize will be awarded for a hole-in-one, to be divided equally between the player and Horses Unlimited. There will also be $750, $500 and $250 hole-in-one gift certificates awarded for specified tees. Checks can be made payable to HUI and mailed to Shirley Leschinsky, P.O. Box 3500, Quincy, CA 95971. Huff Sunday, April 14, hosted the first one man scramble at Mt. Huff Golf Course. The best of two shots winners were: 1. Dick Grace 2. Jerry Quam 3. Leo Sorosinski 4. Gary Metzdorf 5. Don McConnell There were two winners of the closest to the pin contest. Leo Sorosinski scored on Hole # 5 and Dick Grace aced it on # 8. On Wednesday, April 17, there was a tie between two teams who came in at 9 under par. Despite the cold start to the day, and the wind, the teams played well. Team 1 A members were Ted Trafton, Gary Metzdorf and Mike Ingle. Team 1 B were Darel Joseph, Greg Stevens and Loren Lindner. Chip-in was taken by Darel Joseph and Mike Ingle who tied it up. DareI Joseph continued his winning streak with coming in closest to the pin. Mt. Huff Thursday Evening Scramble It was a wonderful afternoon for golfi. The Mt. Huff Thursday Evening Scramble was well attended. In first place (won by chip-off) was the team of Greg Stevens, Mike Banchio, Bill McRoberts and Ralph Cote. In second place was the team of Darel Joseph, Nolan Bussey, Don Sheffield and Dick Grace. Closest to the pin was won by Don Sheffield. Carol Metzdorf took the longest drive. Lois Childress Graeagle Men's Golf Association It was a cold and windy day, but the Graeagle Men's Golf Association (GMGA) started their regular season on Wednesday April 17, in spite of some ice still in the shaded areas. Sixteen players braved the weather and finished the round. White tee winners were: Bryan Hanson low gross; Dick Eck and Jac Castleton tied for low net. From the Combo tees Jim Bilger was the winner. There were six skins won. Bryan Hansen won two. Jim Adams, Dick Eck, Chuck Franck and Ron Eaton each won one. GMGA has started the 2013 schedule of play Monday (Monday Madness), Wednesday (Men's Day) and Friday (Badditos & Bandits). On Friday, April 19, the weather was much more favorable and there were eight Badditos and nineteen Bandits who played. Results were not available in time to be included. The GMGA has three events planned for the next few weeks. May 4 will be the first couples' event, the CHA-CHA-CHA. On May 15 will be the Annual Spring Members' Meeting and scramble. May 30, 31 and June 1 will be the 42nd annual Member Guest Invitational.
