6C Wednesday, April 24, 2013 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter Quincy beats Chester James Wilson Sports Reporter sports@plumasnews.com Quincy's softball team had a heartbreaking week, though it ended, on a high note when the Trojans defeated the Chester Volcanoes 6-4 on April 19. On April 15, Quincy lost 17-13 to Hug in the llth inning. The next day the Trojans lost both games in a double header against Maxwell 13-4 and 13-2. The three losses and one win dropped Quincy's record to 10-8-1 overall and 1-2 in league. The Trojans still have seven games remaining in league play to pick up their record. One of the main contributors to Quincy's win against Chester was junior varsity player Sarah Nolan. Nolan was called up to the varsity level to pitch against the Volcanoes since the Trojans' regular pitcher, Brooke Potter, was out of town. Nolan showed she had what it takes to play with the varsity team by striking out eigh t Chester playerS. Nolan gave up just four hits. Elaina Amodei also helped push the Trojans to victory. Amodei proved herself a true slugger, which resulted in two runs. Amodei batted three for four with two putouts and two assists on defense. Earlier in the week, Quincy's game against Hug dragged on. The teams played on for 11 innings, despite all the snow that was falling around them. The loss put Quincy in a disposition that carried on the next day in the games against Maxwell. Lady Eagles lose two FRC's Bethany Clapper makes a iolt for it past second base during the Lady Eagles' final regular season game against Shasta College last Saturday. Shasta won both games in a double header, 2-1 and 11-6. The two teams battled all season for the top spot in the Golden Valley Conference, with Shasta ultimately claiming it with a 20-0 record in conference. Feather River ended the regular season in the second spot with a 15-5 conference record. Both teams will continue on in the playoffs and potentially play each other once again this season.
