Accompanied by his teacher, Susan Robinson, Canaan, who celebrated his eighth birthday Sunday, registers his surprise, accepts his fireman's helmet from Assistant Chief Frank Carey of the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department, and climbs aboard. The fire department donated a ride in a fire truck as an auction item for Plumas Arts' Taste of Plumas fundraiser. Canaan's great-grandmother made the winning bid.
