The team had a very creative proposal for mixed gender in the early grades but same gender schools in middle school. Principal's Message I was innocently walking through the market when one of our students called out, "Mr. Porter!" I am used to little guys asking why I am at the store (principals actu- ally do need food), but this child took a totally different tack. "Mr. Porter," he asked, "you really like those pants, huh?" I thought maybe he was talking about his own pants, but then he asked, "Are those pants really comfortable? .... Well," I hesitated, "yes, these are com- fortable pants." I wondered what he was getting at. "But why do you wear them so high?" he blurted, grab- bing his own waistband and pulling up as high as he could. I told him I liked to have my underwear covered, but he showed me that he had his underwear covered too. Now, I am usually the one who makes kids pull up their pants, but all of a sudden, this second grader had me feeling as out of style as Pee Wee Herman or some such person with his pants pulled halfway up his torso. All I could do was laugh and shake my head. I was out of words... Sincerely, Shepard Kest Porter, Principal A Word from the Secretary Kindergarten Round-up went very well. Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make this event such a success! ff you have a child who will be attending kindergarten next year, please stop by the school office as soon as possible to place your child on our kindergarten list and pick up a kindergarten packet.
