4C Wednesday, May 5, 2010 Bulletin, Progressive, Record, Reporter The Central Plumas Recre- ation and Park District re- cently teamed up with the Quincy Rotary Club to con- struct two new bocce ball courts and one new p6tanque court at Pioneer Park. The new game courts took the place of an underutilized sand volleyball court adja- cent to the Rotary barbecue pavilion. The decision to transition from a sand volleyball court to bocce ball and p6tanque was motivated largely by the changing demographics in the Quincy area from mostly young families to a blend with more mature residents, according to recreation and park district manager Jim Boland. Financial and volun- teer labor support by Quincy Rotary Club proved essential to the success of the project. "Bocce ball and p6tanque are more leisure-like sports activities set in a social envi- ronment that can accommo- date retired seniors, church groups, the physically and developmentally challenged, as well as more fully able adults," Boland said. "With this newest park ad- dition, the Rotary barbecue pavilion, which seats more than 75 people under shelter, now features three horseshoe pits, a grass volley ball court, the Pioneer Pool, a nearby composite play ground struc- ture, as well as the bocce ball and p6tanque courts. The Rotary barbecue pavil- ion is ideally suited for church groups, clubs, fami- lies, company events, birth- day parties, class reunions or similar events," Boland added. The recreation and park district currently is ac- cepting group reservations for Pioneer Pool and the Ro- tary barbecue pavilion for the upcoming spring and summer season. For more information re- garding the new bocce and p6tanque game courts, the Rotary barbecue pavilion or programs at Pioneer Pool, contact Jim Boland at the District Office, 283-3278. 1 WALLPAPERING AUTO GLASS It's not your mother's wallpaper anymore!
