Feather River Bulletin Wednesday, May 6, 2015 3A On April 22 a class comprised of 20 Head Start preschoolers visits American Valley Animal Hospital in Quincy. The students looked through the clinic's two exam rooms, operating room and treatment area while learning about X-rays, cat carriers and other common aspects of working with animals. A scavenger hunt included a stethoscope and a scale. At the end of the tour, teachers reported that many students left with the desire to be veterinarians. Photo submitted Association offers handgun target practice The Quincy Sport Shooting Association is offering target practice every Thursday evening, from 5:30 to 7, through October. The bulls-eye pistol shooting (target practice) will be held at the Gopher Hill Shooting Range on Snake Lake Road. Membership in the Quincy Sport Shooting Association is encouraged but not required to take part in the weekly event. There is a $1 fee to pay for the target. The fee is waived for first-timers. "It's a great way to keep familiar with your CCW handguns and proficiency and build confidence in your handgun skills," said an association spokesperson. "It's a great family training environment and a place to enjoy friendly, safe shooting." The stationary targets will be set at a 25-yard distance. Participants can shoot .22 to .45 caliber rounds, with 60 rounds maximum for the sequence. Shooters can fire fewer rounds if they desire.
