That was especially true last week as the Vols took a trip down the hill to battle the Mercy Warriors -- and walked away with a 20-9 win that saw every player on the Chester squad score at least one run: While everybody on coach Aaron Hardesty's squad made the rounds atleast once, Spencer Lee and Adam Branch did it three times each, with a pair of runs coming from Matt Blanton, Nick Cancilla, "Jason Schlueter, Tristan James and Eddie Perez. Lee, for his part, was the king of swing as he belted a home run early on in the game, while Cancilla recorded a triple and both Blanton and Branch swung for doubles. Lee and Cancilla led the offensive effort for the Vols, putting up four RBIs. Two-RBI performances also came off the bats of James, Blanton and Damon Stephens. On the mound, Lee started the game, giving up all of Mercy's nine runs in three innings. In the fourth Schlueter came in to earn the win, giving up just one hit and striking out three of the eight Mercy batters he faced. The win catapults' Chester to a 5-0 record in Five-Star League standings and a 16-2 record overall. Lady Vols softball Chester 12, Mercy 1 An outstanding team performance on both offense and defense helped the Lady Vols to their third straight win last week, defeating Mercy, 12-1. The junior penciled in three runs, two hit and an RBI -- and also managed to record a 1.000 fielding percentage on four stops at first base.
