Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter Wednesday, May 7, 2014 9B [00escue facility plans improvements for boarding Our recent fundraiser, our bake and yard sale on April 26, was extremely successful. We raised enough money to complete one side of our outdoor dog pen and pay some bills. Many thanks to everyone who baked and who brought items for us to re-home. The day was a lot of fun for the volunteers and for our "customers" who received great bargains. In order to keep revenue streaming in Friends is still offering our "Gas 'N Grub" drawing tickets for sale. That fundraiser winner will be picked May 24 and the lucky winner will get two ANIMAL TALES FRIENDS OF PLUMAS COUNTY ANIMALS $100 gift certificdtes -- one for gas and another for food anywhere in Plumas County. Friends adoption and rescue will also be offering boarding for dogs once the outdoor dog yard pen is completed. This benefit to the community will give Friends another source of revenue to continue our good work. We are hoping to have everything in place by June 1 and be ready for our new clients. Each indoor dog enclosure has a doggie door out to a large enclosed yard. One of the yards will have fencing that is improved by angle iron to offer a 7-foot height for larger dogs that might be tempted to jump fences. Our facility only has two indoor enclosures so the service will be small and personal. Continual improvements to the site make it more comfortable and safe for the animals and staff. We received the gift of four gently used solid core doors and have replaced all the old single panel outdoor doors to help weatherproof the site. We also have to replace three windows for safety reasons, as well as for heat retention. The old windows are fragile and ill fitting and it is dangerous to have such windows in the cat playrooms, so they will be replaced. Currently the animals are protected by thick panes of plate glass over the offending windows, but with the warmer weather we will need to modernize the cat rooms. Thank you to all our supporters who have sent donations. Your tax-deductible gifts are much-appreciated and are always much-needed to improve the living conditions for the animals. Our new foster dog, Boomer, is a 4.5-year-old neutered male Sheltie. We have only had this new boy for about a week and he is still adjusting to his new life and people.Boomer is very shy and sweet and gets along with, dogs, cats and children. He is UTD on vaccinations and is heartworm free. He is a ball of fluff, but only weighs 33 pounds. A super good boy. See his pictures, and the pictures of our lovely cats, on the Adopt A Pet Friends of Plumas County Animals website. Friends of Plumas County Animals is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and all donations are tax-deductible. No one in Friends gets a salary and no money is spent on administrative fees. Friends is not a county entity. Donations can be sent to Friends, PO Box 182, Quincy, CA 95971 or brought to the site at 2163 E. Main "" t. Thank you for your continued support.
