Bulletin, Progressive, Record, Reporter Wednesday, May 12, 2010 5C Ryn's grand slam wins it Chester edges Quincy c!! one run Shannon Morrow Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com Trailing by three with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh in- ning, Chester's David Ryn hit a grand slam home run to give the Volcanoes a 7-6 vic- tory against Quincy last Fri- day, May 7. Ryn's heroics followed a three-run homer by Quincy's Jared Kuipers in the top of the seventh, which gave the Trojans the lead. The dramatic win kept the Volcanoes in contention for a share of the Feather River League title going into their final two league games against Portola and Loyal- ton, scheduled for May 10 and May 11. The results weren't known at press time. The Portola Tigers were 9-0 in league, with one game re- maining against Chester, who sat at 7-1. The Tigers were guaranteed at least a co-championship, and would win the title outright if they beat Chester. When Portola and Chester met for their first league match March 23, Portola won 7-6. In Chester's 7-6 win over Quincy last Friday, Ryn's four-RBI grand slam followed a two-RBI home run by Jake Simms and two one-RBI dou- bles by Ryan Bereznak and Daniel Burt. Tyler Buchanan also hit a double, and Coner Loranger added one hit. For Quincy, Kuipers and Andrew Murphy each posted two hits, with Murphy adding a double to Kuipers' three-RBI homer. Lane Labbe hit an RBI-double, and Cal Blanton added two RBIs. Nolen Lewis, John Flanigan and Sam Ruttschow tallied one hit apiece. Bereznak pitched a com- plete game for Chester to earn the win, while Jesse Wallace pitched more than five innings for Quincy, with no hits and eight strikeou.ts. Daniel BuTt gives teammate David Ryn an ecstatic embrace after Ryn won the game for Chester. Photo submitted : i :w :'% A youth trap team has started in Quincy.
