Photo by Shannon Morrow Quincy softball wins comeback Shannon Morrow Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com Despite trailing 6-1 against a higher-seeded opponent, the Quincy Trojans softball team battled back for an 8-6 victory in the first round of the playoffs May 15. Facing seventh-seeded Hamilton, the 10th-ranked Trojans scored one run in the first inning, but Hamil- ton claimed three runs in each of the first two innings to take a five-run lead. Rather than rolling over, Quincy tacked on two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game. With the game locked at 6- 6, neither team's defense yielded through the fifth and sixth innings. In the last inning, Quincy seized two runs and then held strong on defense to eliminate Hamilton. Elaina Amodei earned the Win for the Trojans by pitch- ing a complete game. Amodei allowed five hits and one earned run against 35 bat- ters, with seven strikeouts. On offense, Jasmin Sher- man amassed three hits, two runs, one RBI and two dou- bles for Quincy. Linda Nolan assembled two hits, two runs, one RBI and two dou- bles. Sarah McKenzie generated two hits and one run, Kayla Westman posted one hit and two RBIs, Shayla Sennett se- cured one hit and two runs and Samantha Keely notched one hit and one RBI.
