8A Wednesday, May 29, 2013 Feather River Bulletin II Samantha P. Hawthorne Staff Writer shawthorne@plumasnews.com One man's trash is another man's treasure -- a philosophy that is sure to be upheld during the annual Indian Valley-Wide Treasure Hunt on June 1. Starting at 9 a.m., more than 23 valley residents will be welcoming strangers into their yards and offering them a chance to f'md salvaged treasure. Location lists will he available Friday, May 31, in two different business area information racks next to the "Welcome to Indian Valley" signs along Highway 89. Lists will also include local dining areas with their business hours, and nearby gas stations. Yard sale locations include Indian Falls, Taylorsville, Greenville, Crescent Mills and parts of North Arm. Some of the many items up for grabs include a 25-foot travel trailer; miscellaneous furniture; a washer and dryer set; televisions; an Amish electric fireplace; horse tack; exercise equipment; carpentry and yard tools; hardware; camping gear; holiday decorations; and livestock (goats and lambs). Three estate sales have been registered, as has one bake sale. There will also be demonstrations of chainsaw carving and wool spinning. Registration is still available and much more can be expected. For more information contact the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce at 284-6633. service Laura Beaton Staff Writer Ibeaton@plumasnews.com The long-awaited American Valley Community Services Authority finally met after a year-long hiatus. The full board of East Quincy Services District and all but one of Quincy Community Services District's board members met at the Quincy public library's conference room May 22. Two main items came out of the meeting. County Counsel Craig Settlemire said he would work with the AVCSA to determine what power the authority's bylaws actually have. A question arose at the meeting regarding federal monies that East Quincy's board members obtained when it was necessary for them to abandon their outmoded septic system and convert to a sewer system. Settlemire said he would research the loan and its legal ramifications, if any, for the AVCSA. The second item involved the proposed income survey of American Valley residents that would determine whether the valley qualifies for a further low-income grant of $100,000. That grant would pay for a detailed feasibility study of the valley's wastewater collection and treatment needs. A date of July 17 was selected for the next AVCSA meeting to discuss these two issues, pending availability of the library meeting room. Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz recently announced that the main park road through Lassen Volcanic National Park is scheduled to Sulphur Works, with one lane opening for through travel May 24- 27.
