Feather River Bulletin Wednesday, June 17, 2015 13A Service held for EMT killed in hit-and-run Ann Powers Staff Writer apoWers@plumasnews.com Happy. Luminous. Beautiful. Outgoing. Loved, Missed. Words used to describe Kelsi Rai Carr by mourners gathered at the Portola Station Baptist Church to celebrate the 23-year-old local emergency medical technician's life after she was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Sutter County earlier this month. Cart's boyfriend, Nathan Ashiey Hanks, 28, attended the June 13 procession and service in a wheelchair. He suffered major injuries in the collision and has undergone several surgeries at UC Davis Medical Center. "She changed my life and she made me a better man," Hanks said while choking back tears. "She made me the luckiest man alive. She brought a smile to the whole world." Many of those in the standing-room-only crowd wore coral - Carr's favorite color. Before the service, a long procession of emergency vehicles traveled down Gulling Street, and a medical helicopter flew overhead, paying tribute to the young woman who touched so many lives. "Moms always want a daughter they can be best friends with," stated Carr's mother, Lisa, in a letter read by Pastor Brad Campbell. "I loved our relationship. I love you more than words can say." Carr, born and raised in ,, Reno, was a certified nursing assistant and EMT who worked for Eastern Plumas Health Care in both Portola and Loyalton. Hanks is a father of two and has been a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Sutter County for eight years. She was so loved that nobody could say good-bye. Rather, they all said - see you again soon.., in heaven. According to California Highway Patrol officials, the search continues for the driver who fled the scene of the deadly crash. The collision happened when the couple was riding a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle traveling westbound on Highway 20 east of Lytle Road at about 9:45 p.m. after a dinner and movie date near Yuba City. Hanks was driving the bike and Carr was a passenger. A pickup traveling south on Lyfle Road made a left turn onto eastbound Highway 20. During the turn, the motorcycle hit the left rear of the pickup and Carr was thrown from the bike.
