There are no pines nor Douglas firs, that's true, But soft inclines I've found with stunted oaks Where from a branch a puzzled mocker pokes His beak and watches me with head askew And wonders why a youth should so pursue The wild hills, not other human folks. Below, a stream bed filled with marshy grass Leads down the slope into a thicker brush And bends around a jutting mound to wind From sight as from the hilltops shadows pass To longer shades of twilight's coming hush. I leave the woods repaired to join mankind. On July 2 the Town Hall Theatre will host an open mic night. Bread for the Journey, High Sierra Music Festival and Sierra Nevada Brewery will sponsor the event. July 2 is the evening before the High Sierra Music Festival where hundreds of festivalgoers park their cars in a holding lot off Railway Avenue awaiting admission to the festival on Thursday morning. They come into town that evening looking for something to do and places to eat. "Our open mic night will help to meet that need," explains one of the event coordinators, Tiffiney Lozano. "It will also provide an opportunity for a blended community of local and festival-going musicians to share their talents on stage. We are excited about inviting visitors to come into our theatre to experience first-hand what a special place it is to our community and hope that they might get inspired to help us keep the doors open." High Sierra Music Festival will be publicizing the event through their social media channels and helping to inspire contributions throughout the festival.
