Funded by a Community Development Block Grant, which PCIRC was awarded in a competi- tive process, the project will add 2,000 square feet to the center's existing space. "We're all excited about our new space," said Execu- tive Director Dennis Thibeault. "Clients will be better served, and staff will also benefit from the better workflow patterns estab- lished by the new layout." Construction is expected to occur over the next five to six months. The center will have two major sections. The first sec- tion will be dedicated to emergency services, such as utility and rent assistance, gas vouchers for out-of-coun- ty medical appointments, emergency bus passes, food bank vouchers and emer- gency shelter. It will also function as a homeless day shelter with shower and laundry facilities, public ac- cess computers, phones, mail delivery and emer- gency food. The second section will house offices for administra- tion and PCIRC's other pro- grams, such as the Rape Crisis Center, the Court Ap- pointed Special Advocate program and the Indepen- dent Living skills program for foster youth. There will also be conference rooms and a kitchen where life skills training will be of- fered to those who can bene- fit from them. PCIRC was founded in 1983 as an all-volunteer Cri- sis Line provider, and grew over the years in response to emerging community needs. The Crisis Line is still in op- eration, providing 24/7 cov- erage, and is staffed by 12 volunteers and PCIRC staff who have all received 40 hours of initial training and ongoing support. Known as a team player, the organization is well- known by County Health and Human Services depart- ment, hospital discharge planners, the courts, the jail, the sheriff's office, the Cali- fornia Highway Patrol and various other local organiza- tions who are concerned with the welfare of Plumas County residents. While the construction is taking place, PCIRC will re- locate to the office complex at 541 Lawrence St across from Patti's Thunder. Phone numbers will all remain the same.
