Remember... Y III The Plumas National For- est (PNF) is in the process of awarding $212,000 worth of lo- cal grants to fund efforts to reduce fuels on private and public land within the PNF. These grants are part of the congressionally-funded Na- tional Fire Plan. Locally, $100,000 is going to the Plumas County Office of Emergency Services to devel- op a countywide coordinated fuel reduction strategy for wfldland-urban interface ar- eas. This grant also includes aspects of community firesafe planning and education for several Plumas County com- munities including: Green- horn Ranch, Long Valley, Grizzly Road, Meadow Val- ley/Bucks Lake, Plumas Eu- reka Estates, and Quincy/East Quincy. Another $100,000 is slated for the Regents of the Univer- sity of California to fund a small parcel mechanical fuel treatment and utilization demonstration project in Butte, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Yuba, and Nevada counties. Twelve thousand will also go to the Cohasset Communi- ty Association to fund a com- munity firesafe plan for the community of Cohasset. In addition to the grants re- quested through the national forest, the Forest Service Re- gional Office in VaUejo, Cali- fornia, is awarding $250,000 to Collins Pine Co. in Chester to complete an engineering package related to a biomass-to-ethanol and co-generated electricity pro- ject.
