FISHING Lake Davis Fishing results continue to be positive for most. Suc- cessful anglers have to be able to combat the recent high winds, warming water temps and floating surface debris. Daytime surface wa- ter temperatures are 70 de- grees. The catch consists of a lot of smaller fish; however, in the last two weeks we have weighed a 5.255 and 4.4 pound rainbow for two lucky angler s . Both fish were caught by trolling. For best trolling results present your lure 150 feet behind the boat and at a depth of 12 feet. Ef- fective lures have been Cop- per Red Head Dick Nites, Needlefish and cinnamon Wooly Buggers. Fly fishermen are still working a modest damsel hatch on the west to north west area of the lake. Even when the hatch is not appar- ent success is possible by casting dual damsel nymphs with a floating or intermedi- ate sinking line. Shore fish- ing is spotty. For best results try rainbow PowerBait at Fairview or the north side of Eagle point peninsula. The Camp Five road is being re- paired which results in tem- porary road closure at times. Recent catches: July 9, Dil- lard's guided fishing landed 16 fish from 1 to 4 pm while trolling Dick Nites 150 feet behind the boat and at a depth of 12 feet. Bill For- ward of Forward Bound Fly Fishing reported having 30 grabs and landing twenty fish up to 17 inches while fly fishing with a client at the north tip of Fugarwee. June 26, Jim Jennings landed a 5.255 lb. bow by trolling a pearl bikini # 2 Needlfish on the east side of the big island at a depth of 8 feet. Report courtesy of Dol- lard's Sierra Market; 832- 5251 Frenchman's Lake The holiday weekend was excellent for fishing, whether you were trolling or shore fishing. A couple from Fernley, Nev., caught their limit in two hours at the dam using REPORT nightcrawlers. All rainbow trout were 17 to 21 inches long and weighed approxi- mately two to three pounds. Other places that were good for fishing were Turkey Point, Crystal Point and Spring Creek campground area. Weather has been excel- lent for fishing. Call ahead for current de- tails 993-4683. Report courtesy of Wiggin's Trading Post; 993-4683 Lake Almanor For bank fishing, try fish- ing the jetties in Prattville and Hamilton Branch with Kastmasters or night- crawlers with various PowerBait or salmon roe. Try crickets with meal- worms for browns and rain- bows of decent size. Also down by the dam might be worth a try. For boat fishing, the For- est Service boat ramp is open and looks great. Trollers report taking fish with Red/Gold Speedy Shin- ers or Uncle Larry's Fire Tiger--add some carp spit or krill and go down 15-20 feet along the East Shore and the West Shore for good size browns and rainbows. Also lots of reports for salmon are showing by the dam with anchovy tails on size 2 octopus hooks; try a few cranks off the bottom. The small mouth bass at the points and drop offs all around the lake using size 10 hook with crickets and a split shot 12 inches from your hook-brush hogs. Hex hatch has begun with Eli Martin catching a 8.5 trout with a hex nymph- watch for the float tubers at dusk along the west shore. For fly fishing, at Goodrich try Caddis flies; Hamilton Branch use WoollyBuggers; Lake A1- manor, pond smelt; Feather River, Stonefly and Caddis; Deer Creek try Copper Johns and at Butt Lake streamer patterns. Hex hatch is going at West Shore. Call Roger Keeling for guide service 284-6429. Report courtesy of The Sports Nut; 258-3327 i V, sit our stores or order by phone!
