12B Wednesday, July 30, 2014 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter This 1927 photo, left, shows the Gopher Hill Mine as a scoured-out wasteland after heavy hydraulic mining in the late 1800s garnered millions of dollars in gold. A Donkey walk offered by Plumas County Museum will explore the area. In 1927, the wreck of Spanish Peak Lumber Co. engine No. 1, above, sits on the tracks of the railroad that used to go to Snake Lake. The locomotive is the sister engine to the one the county museum restored, which now resides at the fairgrounds. Photos courtesy Plumas County Museum Historical hike follows Beckwourth trail, railroad grade Scott Lawson Plumas County Museum Director Come along for a " history-filled day hike with Plumas County Museum Director Scott Lawson and his two donkeys as they walk along portions of the 1850s Beckwourth Emigrant Trail and the Spanish Peak Lumber Co. logging railroad grade. Points of note along the way are the old Gopher Hill Mine diggings where millions in gold were washed from the earth with water cannons during the late 1800s. Further along are sections of the narrow-gauge logging railroad built in the 1920s by the Spanish Peak Lumber Co. to haul the massive old-growth logs cut from the virgin forests that once surrounded the Snake Lake region. At Snake Lake there is an abundance of waterfowl habitat and a new equestrian campground. Depending on time and energy, there may be a short hike over to Smith Lake. The first dam there was destroyed by an earthquake in the 1870s, resulting in a flood down Spanish Creek PUBLIC NOTICES Abandons business name STATEMENT OF ABANDONMENT OF USE OF FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME The following person has abandoned the f01- lowing Fictitious Business Name: Planned Parenthood Shasta Pacific.
