6 * Wedmmday, tLscWut I, 2001 ) msmsmmmm By Terri Daoust In the absence of unicorns, it is hard to believe that any animal could possess magical qualities, but that is how Chelsea and Candace Chapman describe their pygmy goats. And those who attend this year's Plumas-Sierra County Fair, Aug. 8 through Aug. 12, will have the opportu- nity to see for themselves how these adorable, and loving, little creatures can capture your heart in minutes. Chelsea is 15 years old and has been raising pygmy goats for four years, the last three as a member of 4-H. The family currently has 13 of the small friendly animals, with three which are only three weeks old. After receiving her first pygmy goat. the family became quickly attached and soon found themselves breeding pygmy goats. Chelsea s id she chose to raise pygmy goats because t]z are so adorable, easy to become attached to and you don't have to sell them after showing them at the fair. Each morning, Chelsea heads for the pens to make sure the goats have plenty of alfalfa, grain and water. And, like most animals, they enjoy a treat now and then and their favorite is corn flakes. She also spends time petting and holding the young kids, saying they will sit on her lap for hours without moving. The routine is repeated in the evening when she's often joined by her mother, Candace, and father, Michael. Candace said having pygmy goats around has brought the family closer together.
