From left: Don Ray, teacher and coach from 1961-98; principal Sue Segura, the new kid on the block; Paul Whiting, QHS class of 1950 and coach from 1964-93; and Jeff Ray, class of 1975, coach and current vice principal. In front of them is the leather football signed by members of the 1949 football squad, including Whiting himself. The stellar 1949 six-man varsity team will be the first inductees into the Hall of Fame Nov. 5. Photo by Linda Satchwell Linda Satchwell Staff Writer Quincy High School princi- pal Sue Segura is brainstorm- ing again. A whirlwind of ideas flies around the room. The most recent project to emerge is the Hall of Fame. The high school has a long and rich history, said Segura. "It's so important that we honor our tradition." Segura put together a com- mittee, consisting of Paul Whiting, former QHS student, class of 1950, and coach from 1964 - 93; Don Ray, teacher and coach, 1961 - 98; Jeff Ray, class of 1975, coach and cur- rent vice principal; and Segu- ra, self-billed "newcomer" and principal since 2009. The evolving concept be- hind the Hall of Fame is it will honor a different person or group of people each year.
