Huff Golf Course Monsoonal moisture rained down Tuesday, but the clouds gave the golfers a reprieve for a great Wednesday Morning Scramble on Aug. 6. Our first-place team members Ron Carter, Don McConnell and Ralph Cote scored 8 under par. Coming in at Second place at 5 under par was the team of Dick Grace, Greg Stevens, Leo Sorosinski and Dan Rooney. Closest to tle pin was w.on by Ralph Cote and Don McConnell hit the chip-in prize. Thursday evening, Aug. 7, was balmy and partly cloudy, but no rain showers were in the forecast. The turnout for the Thursday Evening Scramble was excellent. In first place at 6 under par was the team of Richard Mauldin, Joe Pogue, Wes Morgan and Paul Egan. A chip-off between two teams that scored 5 under par gave the second-place showing to the team of Dave Smuts, Austin Linford, Dan Rooney and Margie Joseph. Third place was awarded tc Matt Purdy, Dave Purdy, J.J. Purdy and Bob Purdy. It was certainly a family affair. Closest to the pin and the long drive were scored by Wes Morgan. Plumas Pines Women's Golf Club On Aug. 4 - 5, the Plumas Pines Women's Golf Club held its 31st annual Invitational Tournament. The theme was "It's a Grand Affair Roaring '20s Style." This year's event will be Cemembered partly because of the much-needed rain that fell, especially on the second day. No one could remember any rain in prior years. But the participants were undeterred by the weather and the tournament was completed as scheduled. The format, on both days, was Two Best Balls Per Team. Photo submitted golf course superintendent and crew, Longboard's Restaurant staff and many volunteers from the Plumas Pines women's and men's clubs made for a great event including a full breakfast and very nice lunch each day, wonderful prizes and fun entertainment. Awards were given$or closest to the pin, longest drive, most accurate drive and best-dressed foursome. Thirty teams competed and the winners were as follows. Second place: Judy Yaklin, Marilyn Smart. Meri McGraw, Kathy Hammerl. Third place: Renee. Walker, Kathy Manzer, Kathy Sipel, Sharon Sacks. Fourth place: Pam Weichert, Kris McGee, Candy Parkison, Tracie Cvikovich. Charleston Flight: First place: Scooter Kidwell, Patty Rohman, Kathleen Friedman, Suzette Van Staden. Second place: Mary Stonebraker, Elaine Easterling, Kathy Dunn, Dee Walker. Third'place: Cindy Donohue, Sue Wasik, Janis Dahlberg, Patty Uematsu. Fourth place: Kathie Khalar, Tina Jeffries. Sue Priest, Annie Meyer. Fifth place: Jackie Chavez, Gretchen Legarza, Kathy Kennedy, Mary Kliwer. Prohibitionist Flight: First place: Jackie Luckey, Connie Raheb, Cathy Churchill, Rene Miller. Second place: Katie Magliano, Barb Crist, Toni Dick, Dianne Broughton. Third place: Sandy Kautz, Carol Mitchell, Dona Legarza, Janet Chism. Fourth place: Nina DuPont-Stone, Mary Peters, Carol Desmond, Cheryl Brennan. Fifth place: Kathleen Graham, Laura Reynolds, Gay Miller, MaryBeth Limpert. The winning team of the horse race was Shari Ashby, Jan Anderson, Rayleen Cudworth, Marvis Green. Lake Almanor West Women's Golf Club The West Shore ladies were not aSle to play July 30 due to the big rainstorm but they came out in force to play Thursday, Aug. 7. The game for that day was Low Net and Low Putts. The first flight winners were Kathy Doms, first place, and Kathi Shennan, second. Betty Duncan took first in the second flight and Julie Azevedo placed second. Karen Nelson was the low putts winner. There were three birdies and two chip-ins. Lori Sinclair had a birdie on hole 12 and Karen Tratt and Kathi Shennan each had one on 15. Kathy Doms had a chip-in on the first hole and Kathi Shennan had a chip-in on the second hole. Graeagle Men's Golf Association The format for the GMGA Wednesday Play Day was a bit unusual this past week. It was a variation of In the Box. Two net best balls counted toward the four-man team score on all par 4 holes; each player was designated on one of the par 5's as In the Box, which means whatever his net score was on that hole, his score, plus the best net score of the other three players, count.ed toward the team score. In addition, while two net scores counted on par 3 holes 8 and 16, on holes 3 and 12 three net scores counted. Par in this format was 153.The winners in the White Tee Division were Jack Gilbert, Joel Patterson, Ken Hattich and Bryan Hansen with a net team score of 132. Second place went to the team of Jim Adams, Greg Parker (guest), Dan Bonebreak (guest) and Chuck Pratt (133). There were seven skins awarded in the White Tee Division: two each to Jack Gilbert and Greg Parker, and one each to Jim Reynolds, Jim Adams and Bryan Hansen. In the Combo Tee Division the winning team was Dick Eck, Ron Eaton, Gary Kinckley and John Sciborski, with a net score of 127. Second was the team of Ralph Wittick, Bill Keese, Jim Brennan and Jack Cornish (129). Third was the team of Jack Heskett, Bill Keese, Jim Oster and Ted Leavitt (131). There were six skins awarded in the Combo Tee Division: two to Doug Euper (guest) and one each to Norm Nichols, Gary Kindley, Dennis Chegwin and Mary Pierce.
