8B Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 Bulletin, Progressive, Record, Reporter e Evergreen family strives to serve their customers les in BUSINESS EVERGREEN MARKET Alicia Knadler Indian Valley Editor aknadler@plumasnews.com The Tucker family, which owns Evergreen Market in Greenville, has always strived to be the best re- source for their shoppers and fellow community mem- bers. In the last month, with two major recalls, they had only one customer panic and bring back a carton of eggs. "We replaced those eggs, even though we did not have any of those recalled brands," store manager Nathan Tucker said. He'd rather have a com- forted customer than the money for a couple dozen eggs. If one graphed thenumber of recalls over recent years, he explained, the line would rise exponentially like straight up. Better recordkeeping and technology is why, he said, not really because the food is spoiled. He sees many recalls made just because there was a mis- take in labeling; possibly just an ingredient was left off. In cases when the food is bad, he always wondered how the customer could be better protected. Distributors, suppliers and store mafiagers all receive notices, and they can quickly get rid of those products. "But I worry about the peo- ple like you and me who have bought that product al- ready," he said. Maybe the recafi isn't big enough to make the news. One could visit the Ever- green website for helpful links for those worried about such things, but Tucker fi- nally has a better way to quickly and easily help his customers in just that cir- cumstance. The Evergreen Market Hometown rewards card will soon be issued to customers who want them. Not only can the card be used for emergency recall notifications, it can also rack up some hefty rewards and credits for schools from charitable programs, like eS- crip. There will be other bene- fits as well, and Tucker is ex- cited to offer them to his cus- tomers. He is also excited about a newer addition to his family of employees, butcher Angle Clark, who started her career with almost six years at Biggs Butchery in Westwood. She has helped think of new ways to help customers, as well. Shoppers will now find kabobs and a meatloaf mix, all ready to throw in a pan and bake. Maybe they want chicken fajitas, and they are right there meat, vegetables and spices all ready to sear " quick. With the soon-to-be released Hometown Rewards Card, shoppers can earn rewards, rack up credits for charitable programs like eS- crip, and even be personally notified if there is ever a recall on a product they purchased at Evergreen Market in Greenville. with a sizzle and wrap in a tortilla. Many customers have al- ready noticed the mild ver- sion of the store's special. Tennessee Bluegrass sea- soned sausage is back. Evergreen butchers also provide many custom ser- vices, such as a variety of marinades that can be quick- ly soaked into meats with the vacuummethod. They also do custom butchering, like pork chop pockets and other fancy cuts. Specialty items include buffalo, ground elk, livers and other meat products just ask a butcher and get it, Nathan Tucker grabs the last pack of chicken fajita mix, one of the popular new butcher shop offerings, and asks for more to be made. "You just throw it in the pan, fry it and wrap a tor- tilla around it," he said. "What could be easier?" 60 mo. APR on credit approval Deal & Davie, your local Toyota Dealer for more than 50 years!
