Kate West Chester Editor chesternews@plumasnews.com Children of all ages can discover a world of imagina- tive activities at the Chester Branch Library. The Summer Reading Program this year is themed "Make a Splash, READ!" There are special books and craft activities, and each session offers something fun. Last month one was like a day at the beach. Kids selected seashells and counted them over and over again to practice their num- bers up to 10. There were also lots of books about the beach the ocean. Books for the morning included "Baby Bear goes to the Beach," by Lorette Broekstra, "Splash," by Flora McDonnell and "Water Habitats," by Bobble Kalman. And kids sang to "Baby Beluga," a book illustrated by Asheley Wolff. Kids named the types whales, with help from Librarian Wanda Heath- Grunder. They also used whale shaped sponges to create col- orful stencil works and played with a stuffed octopus and a variety of starfish. They also played ocean bingo. The weekly program for preschool and kindergarten youth takes place each Wednesday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The summer reading pro- gram is a popular one each summer at all branch libraries.
