Shriners Hospitals for Children and the UC Davis Health gystem established the foundation for their long-term rtnership in the early 1990s When the Shriners sought to locate a new regional pediatric medical center in Sacramento. The affiliation agreement between the two organizations has made it possible to achieve rlationally recognized ljrogrammatic successes. , "The tremendous growth we l ave seen in our programs s eaks to the vision of the Shriners and their commitment tb children, the community and the exceptional care our doctors p:rovide," says Margaret Bryan, administrator and CEO at the Northern California hospital. "Our doctors are internationally recognized for their accomplishments and bring extraordinary clinical leadership to all our programs. The care they provide is supported by our partnership with the university t.hat allows ready access to the resources of a top-tier teaching liospital and medical complex. ' "Now, we are fortunate to have added two of the best pediatric rgeons in the country to our medical team," says Bryan. Regional program The Shriners Specialty Pediatric Surgery Program serves children throughout California and the entire Western United States.: The pediatric surgery program will serve children with complex gastrointestinal disorders, complex anorectal disorders and complex chest wall disorders. The wide array of conditions treated include Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, morbid obesity, esophageal strictures, gall bladder disease, fecal incontinence, idiopathic constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, short bowel syndrome, anorectal malformations and complex chest wall abnormalities. The money was raised by the club with a poker run held in July. LaPlante said the money will go to needy veterans, the homeless and to local Veterans of Foreign Wars needs. Also donated to the VFW was 30 pounds of food, which will be distributed locally. The club also gave $360 to sponsor two kids attending Camp Hug.
