"This was one of the gutsi- est and toughest perfor- mances ! have seen from any team I have ever coached," said Williams. "This team has shown character, heart and determination that should take them a long way this year.,' Both teams traveled to Na- pa Sept. 11 for games against Napa Valley College and walked away victoriously. No one scored in the first half of the men's game. FRC blasted past its competition in the second half however, and scored three goals. Phillips, Ripley and Emma- neul Boateng all scored in the second half of the match to win the game 3-0. The women's match was an even bigger rivalry for FRC than the game against Chabot. Coach Williams' son, Brad Williams is the coach for Napa Valley College. Last year, the Napa team beat FRC on two separate occa- sions. The two teams were even- ly matched through the first half. Both played defense well, resulting in a scoreless first half. The second half was an uphill battle for both teams. Finally, with 10 minutes left on the clock, Mellissa Kabfleish scored the only goal of the game, winning it for FRC, 1-0. FRC men are undefeated this season. They next play Friday, Sept. 21, against American River at the FRC soccer field at 3 p.m. The women are perform- ing considerably better this year compared to last. They play again Thursday, Sept. 20, against Contra Costa Col- lege at the FRC soccer field at 4 p.m. FRC football loses to SJ Delta FRC's LaVon Pearson dodges SJ Delta's coverage.
