8B Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 Bulletin, Record, Progressive, Reporter Body Maggie Wells Staff Writer Not unlike our small Northern Sierra Nevada towns, which often seem to be growing smaller by the year, Central Sierra Nevada towns face the same predicaments. What can residents concerned about remaining relevant do to bring in tourism and visitors who will want to come back again and again to spend time and money in these towns that sometimes feel like time forgot them? Anni Boelyn had an answer to that question. As the manager of the Lazy Z Resort in Twain Harte, a town with a little over 2,000 inhabitants, she's often thinking of what she can do to get more people to come out to the resort which sports a beautiful pool, against a backdrop of natural-looking concrete rocks, foliage and cozy cabins. She found her answer in her other calling. Boelyn is one of the founding members of the Burlesque dance troupe, the Kountry Kittens. People always go on retreats. What if she organized one that featured burlesque and body acceptance? She alerted the Kountr~ Kittens, got a hold of a few burlesque dancers in San Francisco and invited them to come give participants pointers and dance classes. She blasted social media with her plan and, just like that, a retreat in a town hardly anyone has ever heard of was born. Boleyn alerted local Plumas County fflmmaker Heidi Moore of Chester of her plans and together they hatched the idea that making a short ptance retreat design d to nforce positive imag Chester filmmaker Heidi Moore films a choreography scene while the retreat mascot looks on. "Burlesque for Body Acceptance" is now being edited for release sometime in 2016. This could mean anything from how one feels about wearing a bathing suit to the lake to not being hired for a job because one didn't look thin or pretty enough to be hired. It also usually means competition between women rather than support. Boelyn created a retreat that focused on building trust between women. She blindfolded them and made them trust each other on a 'trust walk." Her troupe-mates led the participants through dance routines many never thought they could do. Troupe member Sabrina Little taught the women posture and confidence poses. HeidiMoore interviewed each woman separately to get a feel for the appeal of such a retreat in what for many was the middle of nowhere.
