Published LCT Oct. 6, 20151 Published FRB, IVR, PR, CP Oct. 7, 20151 Lady Cougars stop Quincy, 3-1, at FRC Quincy's varsity volleyball squad fought hard in its second game of a match against Lassen last Tuesday, Sept. 29, and though the Lady Trojans won that set by two points, the Lady Cougars were victorious in the end, 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17). The game, which would have normally been played at Quincy, High School, was moved to Feather River College due to an ongoing asbestos removal project at QHS. Despite winning the second set, Quincy would be dominated in the remaining games as Lassen's Makenna Busse and Morgan Raschein led the Cougars across a variety of stats. For the Trojans, a variety of players made a contribution across all four sets. Mariah Ruelas, a senior for Quincy, led with six digs and six receptions, while junior Kaylin Henderson was fierce at the net with 12 kills. From the line, Ashlyn Wingfield was the best of the night with 6 aces on 15 serves, allowing only two errors. In terms of proper setting for the attack, junior Becca Grammer had 15 assists on 19 attempts. Skyler Gott led the defense at the net with six blocks. Skylar Gott, left, goes to the net for a block against Lassen's Makenna Busse. Photo by Greg Knight Quincy 3, Oroville 1 The next night, the Trojans beat up on the luckless Oroville Lady Tigers on a 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 25-10) final score. The key to the win was Becca Grammer's game for all four sets. The junior setter was a LET US SAVE YOU TiME & MONEY REACH 75+ MILLION REAI)ER$ WITH ONE O~DER, ONE BILL! Call Aviation Institute of Maintenance 866-231-7177 Brought to you by: Dr. Gregory Sawyer, DDS THE TOOTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TOOTH Orthodontics: Part 2 There are many different techniques used to move teeth orthodonically, but they all rely upon the same basic principles. First there is a unique property to dental bone that allows the orthodontist to move teeth; unlike skeletal bones, dental none "softens" when a continuous, gentle force is applied. When the movement is ceased, the bone remineralizes and hardens! If it were not for this amazing physiologic fact, teeth could not be straightened. Then there are mechanical principles that are utilized to facilitate the actual movement of the teeth It is just basic physics that we rely upon: action-reaction, anchorage of one element to push or pull against, simple leverage, and inclined planes. As such, there is not just one most correct method for straightening teeth. As long as biological parameters are adhered to, engineered techniques are developed that apply the correct amount of force in the exact direction designed We used fixed appliances (braces) made of various alloys, high tech ceramics, and silicone or vinyl elastic modules. Removable devices are also used that not only move the teeth, but whole segments of the jaws (dental orthopedics). You may have heard of the invisalign technique. This technique allows us to make clear, invisible appliances fabricated from computer scanned impressions to straighten teeth without metal braces. In short, there are many good methods to achieve the perfect smile!
