Quincy's varsity football team took down Portola 24-7 in the annu rivaI!T gain e OCt. 3 to i @i i t regain the trophy. The game took place on Portola's homecoming night, to add salt to the wound and intensify the rivalry. The win was much needed for Quincy, which came into the game with a 1-3 record. The loss for Portola dropped its record to 2-3, equal to Quincy's. Both teams' defenses made the game. Neither team reached the end zone in the first half. Quincy's Aaron Race scored the only points of the half, kicking two field goals for the Trojans. The first field goal was back from an impressive 42 yards. "Portola is a good football team," expressed Quincy coach Tom GoBs. "We came out focused and had several players step up to the challenge. According to Sports Editor Delicia Martinetti, PRS' sports@plumasnews.com domestic violence services coordinator, the amount of abuse in the county is actually quite staggering. ' "One thing that's surprising is the amount of domestic violence we have for such a tiny area," Martinetti stated, "For example, we've had to triple the size of our staff in the last five years to keep up with our clients." To kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Plumas Rural Services held its fourth annual run/walk in Quincy on Oct. 4. The point 0 f the annual run was to create awareness of the amount of domestic violence that takes place in Plumas County.
