Sports Editor sports@plumasnews.com Chester&apos;s girls soccer team is seemingly unstoppable this year. After taking down North ' Tahoe 3-1 last Saturday, the girls' reported record stood undefeated at 6-0-1. The one .tie Chester has came earlier in the week, Oct. 1, against Portola. Chester faced a slew of injuries the last few weeks. Hannah Thompson, Savannah Ayers, Haylee Potter and Delaney Dreith were all unable to play in last week's games. All four girls were starters for the Volcanoes. This year's team is 21 deep, allowing replacements to be . assigned. Chester coach Eric O'Kelley sang the praises of how the team kept its momentum without four of its regular starters. "The team is doing really well," stated O'Kelley. "We filled in'for the girls who are out and the team really stepped up. We're really playing as a team." Chester rolled out with a winning spirit in its game against North Tahoe. Within the first 15 minutes, Paige Reed and Elizabeth Bereznak both scored against their Chester's Elizabeth Bereznak dashes for the ball during the Volcanoes' game against North Tahoe on Oct. 4. North Tahoe scored one in the first half, then Reed finished the game with another goal in the second half. In the game against Portola, the two teams were held at a stalemate. Portola played with just 10 players, and managed to hold Chester despite being down a player and allowing no substitutions. O'Kelley described the game as a good, tough game. Chester and Portola will play once again Oct. 9 on the Tigers' field at 5 p.m. In other high-school soccer news from the area, Quincy's girls and boys beat Portola on Oct. 3 at Portola's series of homecoming games. Girls Quincy 4, Portola 3 "The girls played a fantastic game," said Quincy's girls coach Sarah Guard. "It's been so much fun to watch these girls come together as a team and play like they've been playing together for years." Rachel Hanna was the Trojans' top scorer, kicking Emily Walmer and Autumn Brawley scored the other two goals. Both were the first goals the two have scored since joining the high-school team/ Quincy's girls will next play Oct. 16 at Chester at 6 p.m. Quincy 4, Portola 0 In the boys' game, Quincy got off to a good start when Nathan Ross scored an early goal. Miles Rubalcava-Cunan, Erik Schwartz and D.J. Davis all scored for the Trojans in the second half. Quincy coach Colin Dillingham mentioned the strong performances of Schwartz and Dale Morgan, and named Thomas Huang as the team's player of the game. "Thomas had his best game of the season with five steals," said DiUingham. "Thomas really pulled hard during the second half, and helped contribute to the team's dominance." Quincy's boys will travel to Squaw Valley Academy on Thursday to continue their league play.
